10 tips to best protect your skin from the sun ☀️

 

  1. Time(s) tanning

    Your skin needs to get used to the sun. Your body produces melanin, a kind of self-protection of your body to prevent you from burning. So it is important not to go out in the sun for a long time all at once, but to build up slowly. This way you let your skin get used to the sun.

    It is also best to stay out of the sun between noon and 3 pm. This is when the sun is at its brightest and you can get sunburned the fastest. So it's best to avoid the sun at that time.

  2. Use sunscreens, lotions or sprays

    It's obvious, but to best protect your skin from the sun, sunscreen is a must! Important here is the SPF: the Sun Protection Factor. Choose the SPF factor that suits your skin. Do you have a (very) light skin? Then choose an SPF30 or SPF50. If you have (slightly) tinted skin, your skin may have a lower SPF factor. The best choice is an SPF under 30..



  3. Lubricate, lubricate, lubricate

    To best protect your skin, it is important to apply your sunscreen product frequently and generously. The "standard" is to apply every 2 hours & extra if you have been swimming or transpiring. So spread, spread, spread!

  4. Grease all over your body

    Sunscreen products are available for all of your body; from face to body and from special shampoo to lip balm with SPF. We often forget about the vulnerable areas of our body: our nose, feet, ears and lips. The skin in these areas is very thin and thus burns extra quickly. So be sure to apply a special sunscreen to these areas as well.

  5. Find the shadow


    Have you been lying/sitting in the sun for a while? Then seek shade for a while. This will allow your body to cool down and recover from the sun's rays.

  6. Cooling shower

    After a day in the sun, it is nice to jump in the shower. Don't shower too long and not too hot after a day in the sun. Your skin quickly becomes dehydrated. It is best to shower with lukewarm water & moisturizing shower products.

  7. Hydrate

    The sun dries out your skin. That is why it is important to moisturize your skin after sunbathing. You take care of your body with aftersun but your face also needs hydration. Tip: Take care of your face with a (hydrating) face mask. Be sure to check out our face mask top 10.



  8. Aftersun

    To cool, hydrate and soothe your skin, apply aftersun after sunbathing. This will keep your skin nice and supple and prevent it from drying out or worse, peeling! 

  9. Drink water

    Your skin dries out tremendously in the sun. Dry skin also causes your skin to produce more sebum, leaving you with oily skin at the end of a day in the sun. You don't want that. You hydrate your body from the outside with aftersun & a hydrating mask. From the inside, you optimally hydrate your skin with plenty of water. At least 2 liters a day.
