Tested: Murad Vita-C Glycolic Brightening Serum

Murad's skincare products aim to make your skin as healthy as possible. All products were developed by American dermatologist Dr. Howard Murad. It is Dr. Murad's philosophy that healthy skin, is beautiful skin and it should always be treated in three different ways to achieve the best possible results: (1) moisturize, (2) inhibit inflammation, and (3) protect properly.

The (t)house testers tested Murad Vita-C Glycolic Brightening Serum, a gold-stabilized Vitamin C and glycolic acid serum that reduces hyperpigmentation and evens out skin tone for an immediate radiant effect.

Maggie:"A good Vitamin C for glowing skin."

What a nice product! Very suitable for my skin. Vitamin C serum during the day makes your skin glow. Especially if your goal is anti-aging. I used this serum once a day after cleansing and under a day cream. I read of an uneven complexion and after a few days of use, it was already better. You don't need very much product and it spreads easily and smells very fresh. It absorbs quickly and the skin feels fresh and smooth. No greasy feeling. The goal of removing dull skin cells succeeded. It is definitely suitable for all skin types. It definitely does what it promises. Highly recommended.

Functioning score 4/5

Smell score 4/5

Price-quality score 4/5

It's worth the money.

Overall score 4/5

A good serum!

Positive points

  • Smells good.
  • Draws in quickly.
  • Removes dull skin.

Negative points

  • None

Anja: "Good product that really does something for your skin and is quite economical to use."

The Murad Vita-C Glycolic Brightening Serum is massaged evenly in the morning and evening on a cleansed face, neck, and décolleté. It is suitable for all skin types, especially for the aging skin, so I was happy for the opportunity to test this product.

The serum contains vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant that helps with visible skin damage such as hyperpigmentation, dullness, and uneven complexion. The Glycolic Acid removes dull, dead skin cells allowing products to be better absorbed by the skin. Because my skin is also sensitive, I have to be careful with glycolic acid. I had to build up the product gently because I got a red and irritated neck and facial skin after the second use the same day. I set the product aside for a while and then used it every other day in the evening followed by my 24-hour cream. Currently, I use the serum every evening on clean skin i.c.m. with my other skincare products such as cleanser, lotion, moisturizing serum, 24 hour cream and sunscreen and it goes great!

The serum is a thin white cream with a sheen and absorbs easily into the skin, which feels velvety soft afterwards. It does not shine and you can easily apply your other skincare products over it afterwards, especially a daytime sun protection because the serum contains glycolic acid. In my experience, the product does not have an unpleasant or emphatic smell and is economical to use. Because I have been using a vitamin C serum for a long time, without glycolic acid, my pigmentation spots from winter were actually much less visible, so I don't dare say that this is only because of this serum, but I have had good experiences with vitamin C and a clear complexion. I notice after using the Murad Vita-C Glycolic Brightening Serum that my skin looks fresher and I no longer need enzymatic exfoliation, I don't have any flakiness since using the serum daily. I also had some blemishes on my nose. They are almost gone now, and the pores have gotten smaller there. On wrinkles, it has no effect on me (yet), but since my skincare products are better absorbed, maybe that will change with longer use of the serum. On its own, I like the serum and I believe it improves your skin.

Functioning score 4/5

My skin looks fresher and I no longer have any peeling or flaking.

Smell score 4/5

No emphatic odor.

Texture score 4/5

Not liquid or oily, but an airy cream.

Price-quality score 3/5

The vial contains 30ml, not 50 like my own vitam C serum, but the price is the same. I think Murad's other products are better priced.

Overall score 4/5

The serum is pleasant to use and has a neutral scent. My skin looks fresher and the pores on my nose have reduced. I also no longer need an enzymatic peel when using this serum.

Positive points

  • Flakes disappeared without exfoliation or peeling.
  • Nose impurities disappeared.
  • The skin texture on my nose is nicer now: no blemishes.
  • Economical to use.
  • Smooth skin.
  • Draws in well.

Negative points

  • I cannot use the serum twice a day because of the glycolic acid.

Karin: "Fine serum, but it is definitely not a miracle cure."

I have used the serum both in the evening, after my cleansing ritual, and in the morning. However, always in combination with a 24-hour skin care product. Especially in the morning, my face felt particularly soft. I don't like the smell very much, smells like Dampo.

Functioning score 4/5

The serum spreads easily and absorbs quickly. The skin feels instantly relaxed.

Smell score 3/5

Lightly scented. Recognizable smell, but I can't immediately place it. Smells a little medical.

Texture score 4/5

Very soft.

Price-quality score 2/5

I find the price to be very high for a 30ml product. In addition, for me, it has no added value compared to the product I normally use.

Overall score 4/5

The product is fine, but I don't see any additional improvements to my skin. Therefore, I would not purchase this product myself.

Positive points

  • Draws in quickly.
  • Gives the skin a beautiful glow.
  • The skin looks well circulated.
  • In the morning, the skin feels nice and soft.

Negative points

  • Relatively much serum needed for entire face, neck and décolleté. Still about 3 pumps.
  • The smell.
  • Face remains somewhat sticky and stiff to the touch.

Nicky: "Pleasant but pricey serum. Actively refreshes the skin."

I used the Vitamin-C serum before the day and night cream. Not much is needed. Very fluid. Pleasant on the skin. Bit of a peculiar smell. Not gross, not nice. I used Vitamin-C serums before and this one gave the same result.

Functioning score 4/5

Works fine. It lightens the lines slightly and refreshes.

Smell score 3/5

Neutral. Slightly medical.

Texture score 5/5

Liquid, but not too much. Spreads well.

Price-quality score 3/5

I find it quite pricey as I have used other serums that were just as good but cheaper.

Overall score 4/5

Good product, and pleasant to use. Refreshes your skin. The smell and the price is a little less positive.

Positive points

  • Works well.
  • Lubricates nicely.

Negative points

  • The price.

Anja: "Too short for brightening, otherwise a wonderful product."

I tried it for two weeks but that was too short to experience the actual effect. Your skin becomes super soft and looks radiant. The brightening factor: well, two weeks is too short.

Functioning score 3/5

Spreads wonderfully. Your skin really improves.

Smell score 5/5

Nice fragrance, fresh.

Texture score 5/5

Spreads easily.

Price-quality score 4/5

It doesn't have to be cheap, but this one could have been a little less expensive.

Overall score 4/5

Great product but the use was to brief in order to experience the brightening.

Positive points

  • Spreads nicely.
  • Smells nice.
  • Your skin really improves.

Minpunten

  • The price.

Conclusion: Deliciously refreshing Vitamin C serum that improves your skin and gives it a glow
