SkinDNA Genetic Test

The SkinDNA Genetic Test is a scientifically substantiated DNA test in skin aging, which, based on your DNA blueprint, provides insight into the genetic causes of (accelerated) skin aging. No 'one-size-fits-all' solution, but personal advice led to the proper skin care, nutritional supplements, and cosmetic treatments.

With the results of the SkinDNA Genetic Test, our skin coaches can create a skincare routine that is complete and unique to the SkinDNA Test recipient. This allows them to give that skin precisely what it needs and preventive care for later. In addition, the test provides insight into your predisposition to premature skin aging, broken down into the following categories:

1. Firmness & elasticity
   The firmness and elasticity of the skin are determined by collagen by 75%. Your genetic predisposition plays a significant role in determining the rate of collagen production and its breakdown. When you are younger, your body makes more collagen than it loses. However, after the age of about 40, collagen loss can accelerate. This leads to a decline in skin health and appearance.
2. Glycation/wrinkle formation
   Glycation occurs when excess body glucose molecules bind to the collagen and elastin fibers of the skin. Glycated collagen fibers can become stiff and less elastic, leading to damage such as sagging, wrinkling, and thinning skin.
3. Sun damage & pigmentation
   The sun's Uv rays are one of the leading causes of premature skin aging. Sun damage includes pigmentation changes. The SkinDNA Test helps identify genetic predisposition, which plays a vital role in determining how well your skin can naturally cope with the influences of the sun.
4. Antioxidant support
   Your body produces two main types of antioxidants that help stops free radical damage. The SkinDNA Test looks at these two types and other genetic markers responsible for protecting your skin from free radicals.
5. Skin sensitivity
   In the skin, inflammation acts as an initial response for healing and counteracting infections & foreign substances such as bacteria, allergens, and toxins. However, sometimes the body can overcompensate and release too many inflammatory proteins to solve a problem, but for which less is required. As a result, the body overreacts, and the skin becomes sensitive.

The test

After ordering, our skin coach received her SkinDNA test at her home. Inside the package was the self-test and a detailed guide on how to take the self-test. After performing, registering, and sending the self-test, it was waiting for the report.

Report

After several weeks, she received the report at home that contained the results of her SkinDNA Genetic Test. This report discusses the five categories tested for and gives you an indication of what risk you are in. This can be low, medium, or high risk. The higher the score (percentage), the lower the risk. Each category indicates what you can do to prevent premature skin aging. We have digitally added the report of our skin coach so that you get a good picture of the information and the results that you receive.

Our skin coach's report clearly indicated that she was at higher risk for sun damage & pigmentation. Following the report, SkinDNA contacted our skin coach to discuss the report and translate the advice into products and treatments.

Conclusion

Our skin coach has used products to combat collagen loss in her skin for years. The test revealed a score of 100% in the Collagen Degradation category. So it turns out that her skin didn't need those collagen products at all, but rather needed to work on sun damage & pigmentation. Something she didn't realize she needed to focus on. She is now going to work on this with specific products.
